Adoption
Our goal at SNORT is to match our dogs with the perfect owners. Our application process is not on a first-come, first-served basis. Rather, we look for the home that best suits the dogs’ needs. Our application form may seem a little overwhelming at first, but it ensures us that we find the best homes for our dogs. After all, our dogs deserve the best!
How do you know when you are ready to adopt a dog? Before applying, please read this article, which discusses the right and wrong reasons for wanting to adopt a dog, and the responsibilities of dog ownership.
To apply to adopt a dog, please complete an online adoption application in its entirety.
The application review process takes various amounts of time, depending on the dogs we currently have in our care and the volume of applications we have received. If you are very specific about the type of dog you want (age, sex, breed, etc.), it will take longer.
What to Expect
When you submit an application for a SNORT available dog, you will be considered along with all other applications received for that dog. We are fortunate that we get such great applicants — so many that it is very difficult to choose. If you are not selected for the dog for which you have applied, we will keep your application on file for 3 months. While we will keep your application on file for 6 months, please continue to keep an eye on our available dogs and let us know if you see one that catches your eye or steals your heart. If you see another dog that you would like to be considered for, please contact us by email at info@snortrescue.org to let us know of your interest.
Approval Process
Application Review:
The approval process begins with you completing the online application form. After filling out the entire application, we suggest that you print a copy of the application for your records before submitting it.
Once you submit your application, a member of our team will contact you via phone or email. Please be patient – we are an all-volunteer organization, and we are limited to contacting you as our schedules permit. If we are receiving an abnormally high volume of applications, it will take longer. During this time, our team will thoroughly review your application and make note of any questions they may have for you. This is also the time that we may contact your references and current veterinarian.
Telephone Interview:
During the approval process, a member of our team may contact you to schedule a time to perform a telephone interview. All applicants and co-applicants must participate in this telephone interview.
During this interview, the SNORT volunteer will ask you questions about your application and try to get a feel for exactly what type/personality of dog would be best for you. We encourage you to ask any questions you have about our organization, programs, or brachycephalic dogs in general during this telephone interview.
Home Evaluation:
If you are being considered for a specific dog, after a telephone interview, you may be contacted again in order to schedule a home evaluation and personal interview. Our goal of the home evaluation is to meet you in person and make sure the living environment is safe for the dog. All people and your current pets living in your home must be present and available during this home evaluation and interview.
During the home evaluation, our volunteers will want you to show them your potential pet’s living quarters (for both daytime and nighttime hours) and your yard, if applicable. Again, we encourage you to ask them any questions you have about our organization, programs, or snorty dogs in general.
Home evaluations are only scheduled when an applicant and dog have been matched.
How will I find out if I get the dog?
A member of SNORT will contact you to let you know whether you have been approved to adopt a dog from us. Please be patient – we will be sure to notify you whether you are approved and/or selected, or not.
