New Volunteer Questionnaire

  • Phone Interview Checklist

Please ask all questions, they may not want to foster but may change their mind in the future.
  • If they left another rescue, why did they leave?
  • Emphasize that they will need to educate their children about incoming foster dogs, how they will need to be slowly introduced to everyone in the house and that these dogs may not have had a happy past. Please emphasize that children should be supervised at all times when around the foster dog.
  • If so, ask them about each pet’s temperament with incoming dogs and describe the personality(ies) of their existing pets. Submissive? Dominant? Aggressive? Playful? Friendly?
  • Tell them about a great website http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/ that helps you pick a good quality food If they need help picking out a good quality. Also bring a list of examples of good quality food such as Solid Gold, Taste of the Wild, Orijen, Wellness, Evangers, Natural Balance, Merrick, Innova, Acana, Nature’s Variety, Annamaet, VeRus, Fromm, Back to Basics, Blue Buffalo, Canidae, Chicken Soup for the Soul and EVO. Explain to them if they have any questions regarding food that they should reach out to their foster manager.
  • They can’t rely on their vet to go through all the old vet records as they are very busy and often miss going through old records. Please explain that ALL vaccines must be cleared through their foster manager BEFORE your vet administers any vaccines. If not authorized by their foster manager, the foster parent will be responsible for paying for the vaccines. If their foster came with no records, they need to reach out to the incoming foster coordinator to check if any records were received. If there are no records, then they should have their vet do a “distemper/parvo titrr test”. SNORT does not permit any SNORT foster to be vaccinated with the DHPP (distemper) vaccine. Please emphasize that all vet visits must be pre-approved by their foster manager in order to be paid by SNORT.
  • If so, ask if it is fenced with wood or wire fence. Explain even if the yard is fenced, SNORT requires that all fosters be supervised at all times including in fenced yards. We’ve had a lot of escape artists escape out of fenced yards. If they do not have a fenced yard, ask how they intend to take the foster out and how often.
  • Please contact the Volunteer Coordinating Manager if you have any concerns about this potential volunteer.
