If you’re looking for a low-key, lump of love who adores his humans, Herschel is your boy! Herschel came into rescue because his military family could no longer take him with them.
No need to feel compelled to give Hershel lots of exercise because he’s happy to lounge on the couch cuddled with you. Not to say he doesn’t like a walk, but short and easy, once a day, is the name of the walking game. Besides a daily walk, he’s kind, friendly, calm and submissive. He is not aggressive in any way.
This boy positively loves other dogs. Big, small, or in between – he wants to play with them all. You will find that he likes shorter spurts of play interspersed with cozy little naps before rousing for more fun. When he’s not playing or on the couch with his peeps, he enjoys chewing away on a Nylabone. Other toys don’t interest him.
Herschel needs a home without small children because in his exuberance he could easily knock them down. We’re not sure about how he’d be around cats.
It’s essential that his adoptive humans commit to a lifelong treatment of Herschel’s dry eyes and allergies. He needs allergy medicine and weekly baths as well as daily eye drops.
This boy is house trained as long as he is let out fairly often. He definitely needs to go out right after eating. He lets himself into his crate and snuggles in with the door open. Even when you are not home, he’ll stay right in it, door open, and not engage in any destructive behaviors.
His ideal home is a single family home in the suburbs, but one with few, if any, stairs, as he can trip or stumble. He doesn’t need an active family and prefers to be home where he can nap a lot. He’s very happy to sit outside while you read or tend to your garden as long as he has a patch of shade to give him comfort., And, of course, he is the ultimate couch potato.
Here’s what his foster Mom has to say about this special boy: “Since he lived in a military family, Herschel has lived in a few different types of areas. The most important thing to him is to be near his people and be loved. He is used to older children, and to his way of thinking, the more the merrier! He is gaining weight and has no idea that he can push people and small children over! There is not a mean bone in Herschel’s body.”
