Teddy was found wandering the streets of New York and estimated to be about 8-10 years old. Like almost every pug out there, he is a sweet, affectionate, loveable and friendly guy. He gets along well with people and his foster sister, a fellow pug. He is untested with cats or kids but because he seems to like everyone and everything, we have no reason to believe he wouldn’t do well in a home with other dogs, children and/or cats!
Teddy even comes with teddy bears of his own: he is obsessed with his blankie and his precious stuffed Lambie and will bring both to you on command! He is also both housetrained and crate trained.
However, Teddy does have a few special medical needs which means he needs to find the perfect special home. Teddy is blind and has diabetes. He requires an insulin shot twice a day and while he’s not a huge fan of having his weekly blood test done, it’s become routine. Since entering SNORT and getting the medical care he needs, he has dropped a few much-needed pounds he’d packed on due to the lack of consistent treatment for his diabetes. He is also on a specific food intended for diabetic dogs. He also receives two different special eye drops that are administered three times a day.
Because of his daily medical needs, Teddy should be placed in a forever home where someone is home the majority of the day or at minimum can let him out midday and be sure to administer his insulin twice a day and his eye drops three times a day. He’d also be a great office companion; he makes a quiet (and cute!) co-worker!
Despite his blindness, Teddy loves going for walks! As long as he’s kept on a short leash and his owners keep an eye out for anything he might bump into, he’s a happy guy. While he does not have mobility issues, because he cannot see, a one-floor home without stairs would be ideal. A home with a structured routine and a relatively calm environment would also be best as too much excitement and chaos can raise glucose levels.
We are confident that Teddy’s sweet face and winning personality makes any extra work required to keep him healthy worth it ten times over! He is currently being fostered in Morristown, N.J. If you are interested in adding this handsome guy to your home, fill out an adoption application!
