More About Me

This pug dynamic duo is all fueled up and ready for your lap! Bonded pug bros Sly and Sparky come as a team that cuddle, play rough and ready with each other and keep you amused every day. But most of all, they adore their peeps and are the original Velcro pugs.

These wonderful boys were surrendered by their owner due to unforeseen circumstances and are anxious for a home of their own. Since the boys sometimes get a little possessive with their toys and growly when they play, their new home should be adults-only, and preferably one with adults who have short-nose dog experience. Although they would prefer to have 100 percent of their humans attention, a home with another calm dog would be considered and slow introductions between housemates would be a must.

Strangers pose no problem for these boys, and in fact, the more the merrier – more laps and people to stick to! But because of their territorial tendencies with toys, we are looking for a home without young children.

Walks are easy with these fellows, and they get two short ones a day. They don’t react to other dogs on leash. Their playtime can get intense, but it’s short and the boys then collapse into naptime.

Their personalities are simply delightful and can be captured in these words: couch potato, mischief maker, busybee and friendly. As is true with many pugs, they can be difficult to train as they are strong-willed and have minds of their own.

Sparky and Sly’s true bliss would be to have an owner who works from home. If this is you, you’ll have a cuddly, snuggly pug in your lap or at your feet all day.
Housebroken? Not a single poop in our home, but marking inside is an issue. They are kept in belly bands which they wear quite happily. Both are generally healthy, but Sly has some hip arthritis and pigmentation in his eyes. Sparky is a bit on the pudgy side and could benefit from losing a pound of two. Warm weather is difficult for both of them, but Sparky seems to get overheated more quickly than Sly.

These boys thrive on routine, and become anxious when it is disrupted or they are in a new environment. They can act up and be unruly until they achieve that comfort level of feeling at home. Another source of anxiety for them is car riding. They appear to want to ride in the car so badly, but once inside, they become anxious, stressed and excited all at the same time.

One of the most valuable things in learning about a dog is what their foster says about them. Here’s what Sparky and Sly’s foster parents have to say about them.
“Sparky and Sly are bonded. They look for each other for comfort, play and direction. While they both need each other they equally need their human. They need someone who will be patient with them as they figure out their new life. Sparky is extremely sweet, quiet (most of the time) but has a playful side. Sly is silly and has a cartoonish way about him - he walks and trots like he is bouncing on clouds, gives you a look that is almost like he is beaming sunshine but then he can be rascally and get into places you didn't think possible.”
