After a rough start in life, Miss Hazel is more than ready to find her forever home.
Hazel was raised as a “breeding” dog prior to be surrendered to SNORT and had no concept of what being a loved and cherished pet meant. Her wonderful foster family has not only gotten her healthy, they have taught her how life great can be.
During her time with SNORT, she has been treated for an upset stomach, infected ears, skin allergies, and Lyme disease. She will have to be re-tested for Lyme disease in October or November of 2020, remain on her current food (Canidae Limited Diet Dog Food), and have careful attention paid to her ears as she remains prone to developing wax.
After getting these medical issues addressed, Hazel really started to come out of her shell! After a few months with her foster family, she loves being with “her” people as often as possible! She immediately bonded with her fur sibling, Wally, a dog similar in age and size to her and she would absolutely love a dog of similar size and age in her forever home. Hazel appears to be afraid of larger dogs; for that reason, places like dog parks are best to avoid and her forever home should be free of larger dogs.
Hazel also loves her walks! She is not afraid to tell you when she is ready to go on one! She is a very routine-oriented gal and would thrive in a home with a somewhat structured schedule. She also loves “guarding” her backyard and chewing on Benebones.
To continue making Hazel feel comfortable and secure with humans, it is best if she can avoid long stretches of time being home alone. Having someone home with her has absolutely helped her come out of her shell and SNORT would love for her to continue that progress in her forever home.
Hazel is wonderful with children eight years and older; she startles easily, so toddlers are likely not a great fit for her. She would also thrive in a home (vs. an apartment) because she does love roaming her backyard but if she were placed in an apartment setting, daily walks are a must!
She is housetrained but has made it quite clear she is not a fan of her crate. Hazel does have a dedicated quiet space in her foster home, though, when she needs some alone time – and don't we all need that from time to time! Be careful, though – she is an excellent confetti-maker if tissues or papers are left within her reach.
Hazel has come such a long way from a scared dog to a dog full of love to give. She has made so much progress and SNORT cannot wait to see her continue to blossom in her forever home. Are you the perfect match for Hazel? If so, complete a S.N.O.R.T. adoption application today!
