Please meet Ms. Phoebe Cakes. An homage to 80's actress Phoebe Cates. "Phoebs or Fifi" was one of the China rescue mission dogs and has been settling into her foster home. She is approximately 2 years old and weighs 21lbs. She is as beautiful on the inside as she is photogenic. Phoebe loves her foster moms. She does tend to focus all her love on one person. Her current foster home has cats that are dog savvy but little miss sunshine has a strong prey drive and would be do best with no cats.
She gets along with the resident (and other foster) dogs but tends to be very rough with the older ones. She would do best in a home with one other dog to have play time or will thrive as your only companion. She deserves to be someone's one and only. This is a hard thing for her foster family to say, as they are madly in love with her but want what is best for her. She has met very well behaved children on a few occasions but even then pancakes and is just not a fan. Her ideal home is one or two adults with a yard she can play in. She is learning to go for walks and use the leash, and each day gets better, but her happy place is in the yard on your lap, in the house on your lap, in bed on your lap....you get the idea.
Phoebe would benefit (and enjoy) basic obedience training and perhaps even learning tricks. She has learned sit and watches intently as foster mom does tricks with the other dogs. She will need the structure, because as the adorable Frenchie she is, she could get away with anything and no one wants a brat. (A cute brat for sure but she likes to learn so why not engage her).
She enjoys chew toys and will happily chew away as long as she can see you. If you are even slightly outside of her viewing range - she is the champion yodeler of all Frenchies. She has seen toy balls and thinks they are intriguing but hasn't quite mastered the shove this in your mouth phenomenon. She loves to cuddle on the couch. A lot Now, if she wants on your lap and you are busy, she will do a sharp bark of disdain as to why she has to wait. She will also keep her paw or her face on you - yes it is that darn cute.
Phoebe is working on her housebreaking and is doing a good job. Now, if it's raining - that is a strong no. She wants it to be known she does not do rain. No way. No how. (Eventually she will go outside but has been known to leave a present showing you how much she hates the rain.).
She is currently in her playful "bitey" stage and bites the dogs and one foster mom. The other foster mom, must just hold her all the time. Phoebe can go up the stairs now like a drunken soldier, but down is still not something she is a fan of - and why bother - when you have a myriad of adults to carry you. She does scare slightly as she is still adjusting to life in a home. Loud knocks or noises have her startled - so a home that is generally quiet would be her zen. She wants to be the one to make all the noises.
Phoebe is currently on an antibiotic for skin issues and also suffers from allergies. She gets two medicated baths a week (where you get stink eye the whole time - even with bribes) but she acquiesces. She gets coconut oil rubs 3 times a day and some bald spots (from scratching back in her old world) have gone from being black to pink and we think the fur will soon come back.
Phoebe would love to have someone home all day because frankly - her life deserves it. She likes being in a home. She is okay going out but you see her real happiness as soon as she is back at home with her people. Someone she can share all her secrets with and you hers. (She doesn't blab....too much. She did tell on her foster mom when she watched too much Hallmark).
Give her all your attention and she will be your number one fan and your shadow. If you think you can be that soul mate that she is looking for, please submit an application to S.N.O.R.T today.
