Please meet sweet Gertrude. She arrived as a part of the rescue mission from China and is a sweet 25lb French Bulldog who is ready to be an important member of a family and not just a mill momma.
Gertrude is still learning English. As her foster mom teaches her to sit, she currently does a 360 in the air. Perhaps if you say spin, she’ll sit? Gertrude really has no interest in playing - just enjoys hanging out and enjoying life. She is definitely food driven so her foster mom is using that to work with her on potty training and tricks/commands.
Gertrude LOVES food. She does gobble her food and then wants to gobble her foster sibling's food so to keep everyone happy, she will need a mindful owner who feeds her separately, so she cannot steal anyone else’s food and so she learns that no one will take her food. She is not aggressive, she just pushes her way in and takes over. Thank goodness she is vertically challenged, otherwise she would be a counter surfer - getting any food she could find.
Medically speaking, She is currently being treated for roundworm but otherwise she is in good health. Her nares are narrow so she can overheat easily, so she is not the type of dog for an active person.
She loves to chew on pressed raw hides.......and wine corks (she considers herself a sommelier). Forget learning “sit”. How about finding the perfect bottle of wine? Now that is a trick. Otherwise, she will play with a tennis ball but really isn't sure what to do yet. Still learning what playtime is.
Gertrude would do great in any environment that is not busy/loud and has no more than one dog. Since she came from a mill, we would like to see her go to a home not having to compete with more than one dog in the house. She would do better without children under 13 or cats as well. She needs routine and stability. She loves to lay in the sunshine and just relaxing, and snuggle time. Gertrude wants to know where you are, but is fine with laying in her favorite spot next to the heat vent.
Gertrude is still learning to hold her bladder and potty training. She is learning to walk on a leash. It is a wrestling game to get her harness on but she does well with it once it is on, just cannot go very far due to her getting overtired/heated.
The perfect home for Gertrude would be a quiet home with a fenced in yard where she can enjoy life. Someone who will be there for her and perhaps enjoy the latest bottle of Chateau Margaux. She does great in the car (she actually lays right down and goes to sleep).
As her foster family says, “Gertrude is such a sweet, loving dog and deserves a life of being the princess after having a life being a mill momma..”
This gem of a girl is ready to make new memories in a forever home. If you think you are that person, please submit an application to S.N.O.R.T, today.
