More About Me

Let’s get one thing straight right off the bat: Beast is NOT a beast; rather he is a loving, calm, and submissive boy who just wants to be loved and cherished.

Beast was surrendered to a shelter because he was reported to have growled at the owner’s toddler grandson. Foster Mom has seen no indication of this behavior, but because of the report, Beast should not be placed in a home with small children. He ignores cats and is mostly indifferent to other dogs in the home.

At first, Beast is a bit shy and cautious, but once he warms up, you’re in for a delightful fellow who is your couch potato companion and a friendly, submissive laid-back loafer.  If there’s one thing Beast could be a bit beastly about, it’s his daily walk. You’ll find he will insist upon it, but you’ll also find he needs a course in leash manners! He also likes the occasional, short run. A fenced yard is not a requirement, but he does need to be monitored whenever he’s outside, off-leash.

Beast does have a few minor health issues including a dry eye issue that was never treated and now requires prescription eye medicine. He is also stiff in the rear hips and knees for which he’s being given joint supplements.

The most important thing this boy needs is a calm, routine-oriented household where he receives constant love and reassurance. Most of all, he wants to be with his human. He loves car rides, too, and is generally a well-behaved fellow. Potty training is almost all there, except Beast does sometimes pee on dog beds or dog blankets but it seems to be in spite if you leave him or are late on his walks.  He wants to make sure you are trained. He is not crate trained.

He would love to go to work with you if it’s allowed and would be the best colleague.  He just needs potty breaks but works for free. He also will not get on furniture unless invited. He also “talks”/whines to let you know he wants attention or food or pee breaks.

As long as it’s a calm home, Beast will do fine in most situations and places. A suburban, rural or small town place would suit him the best. A city home would not be ideal because it would probably provoke his nervousness and anxiety. Also, apartment living should be avoided since he likes to sometimes make his presence known by barking.

The foster parents always say it best, so Beast’s foster Mom says:

“He is a great dog that seems to be slowly learning how to “dog.” He doesn’t play with toys, barely chews bones, and just wants to be where his people are. Very Velcro dog! He is calm and loving and wants to be loved. He thrives when being petted and getting attention. He deserves all the attention he can get for the rest of his life.”
