Like the character in “Coco,” our Hector Rivera was almost forgotten… he was almost euthanized. But, his life has completely turned around. He is ready to find his forever family to snuggle with… and he has A LOT of snuggles to give!!
Hector was surrendered with severe ear and tail pocket infections, which are all cleared up. His ears and tail pocket will always need daily cleaning and to be monitored for infection, but other than that, he’s in tip top shape! Hector also receives supplements to support his joint health which he gobbles up with his allergy friendly food.
Hector has made a small edit to the famous song in “Coco.” Instead of “Remember Me,” Hector requests, “Remember to Cuddle Me.” Cuddles, snuggles, hugs, kisses, pets, scratches, and more cuddles are Hector’s favorite things. He also enjoys playing ball, car rides and eating. But CUDDLES! He cannot survive without cuddles. Hector needs to sleep with you- bed or couch, wherever you are, so is Hector.
Hector is house broken, and while you are with him, has no accidents. If you leave, and he wakes up alone, he will be nervous and upset and peepee. He is happy to wear a belly band and keeps it on when he’s alone. Hector really prefers to be with some one at all times. He is crate trained, but prefers to have free roam to sleep on the sofa or the bed. He is perfectly behaved alone, except for the panic pee.
Sweet Hector relies on his beauty and personality more than his brains. He sort of knows sit… and maybe wait. Commands and training just really aren’t his thing. Most of the time, his foster mom shuffles behind him, herding him to where he needs to go. Hector doesn’t really listen when you call him, perhaps hearing loss from the chronic ear infections, perhaps selective bulldog hearing. For this reason, Hector either needs to be walked on a leash (VERY SHORT and very slow walks) or let out in a fenced in yard. Hector is also an amazing guard dog. He will snore as you walk past him and you may need to step over him as you move around. No burglar is safe with him.
Hector’s ideal family is any family or person who could make him the center of their world. Hector currently lives with a 3 year old human boy, and they love each other very much. However, Hector’s enthusiasm for balls and food is not a match for most small children. There have been some accidental knock downs and some accidental pokes with the protruding toofs. His foster kid giggles and rolls on the floor, but he is a true rescue bulldog kid. Children over 5 can definitely handle Hector the Hungry Hungry Hippo, but children under 5 might find him a little “much.” If a kid lifts a snack over their head, he will jump as high as his stout 57 lbs frame will lift him to try to get it. But who can really blame him; veggie straws and ice pops are delicious!
Other dogs? Cats? Not an issue as long as they don’t try to steal Hector’s spotlight. Hector loves his laid back older Frenchie foster bro and is great with meeting dogs out. He’d prefer the other dogs in his home to supporting roles, and not (quite literally) be the main squeeze. Hector doesn’t currently live with cats, but reportedly was fine with them before coming to SNORT.
Hector’s foster mom says that he is HILARIOUS- filled with funny faces and funny ways of getting you to pet him. Her favorite time with him is when he snuggles in really tight in bed or on the couch; he has no concept of his size or weight. He charms everyone he meets with his goofy humor and lovable neediness. If you think you would be the perfect addition to Hector's full life, then put in an application today!
