Just like the lyrics to The Platters song “ When your heart's on fire, you must realize - smoke gets in your eyes”…well this Smoke definitely gets in your heart.
Meet beautiful Smoke, a 3 year, 4 month old French Bulldog weighing in at 28.6 lbs. Smoke was surrendered because he was emaciated and vomiting and unable to keep anything down. Under S.N.O.R.T’s care, Smoke was diagnosed with chronic regurgitation and had surgery for brachycephalic airway syndrome. While in his foster home, Smoke has put on weight and is thriving.
He will require specialized feeding and medications for regurgitation for life. Currently he takes Cisapride 2.5mg 1 tab every 12 hours 30 minutes prior to meals and Omeprazole(Prilosec) 10mg every 12 hours. He is fed in his own space so he can quietly eat his food and not be disturbed and not want to eat everyone else’s food and avoid food aggression. He gets his meals 2-3 times a day, from a raised dish and he cannot have water with food. He currently eats a lamb & oatmeal Wellness kibble. He also gets lubricated eye drops twice a day.
Smoke needs a loving calm routine and company. He can be a shy & anxious boy when in a new situation and does not like to be left alone (but not destructive). He would do great in a home with another easy going dog but no children so he can have the calm household he so deserves. He has been around cats (when he did a foster vacation) and chases them, so unless they are dog savvy may be not the right fit for him. He sometimes reacts by flinching to his foster dad like he might have been mistreated by an older man before. He loves his foster dad very much.
Quiet homebodies that are routine-oriented would be a great fit. He requires a family to adore and treasure him and dote over his needs and he will give back all the love and smiles in the world. With his brachycephalic airway he would not be a very outdoor active boy, especially in the heat, so a more laid-back lifestyle would suit him better. A house with a fenced in backyard would be the ideal oasis for this boy.
His dream, to be with the whole family, chewing a toy or getting loved or hanging out. He just loves to just be wherever you are.
Smoke can be an energetic player, couch potato, goof, and an anxious nervous boy all in one. He is awesome and easy to live with and train but deep-down he is also still a bulldog so he can show his bully side if challenged by another dog (stubborn wanting to get his way). He follows his foster mom everywhere, when she is home, and is such a good boy he is no longer crated. Smoke has the most incredible bounce when he wants to be near you on the couch. He actually sprints straight up like Tigger from Winnie the Pooh.
Smoke would do okay with someone who works outside of the home, no more than 6 hours but his ideal life would be to be with his people at all times.
He currently lives in a quiet suburb with a backyard that backs up to the woods and this is great for him, but he would also adjust nicely to any calm, safe routine and home.
He is the best, most loving, goofy boy ever and he needs love, dedication, routine and safety. He is really silly and awkward at times and makes his foster family laugh all the time. He does regurgitate regularly, so he will need a home that can meet his daily routine (not afraid of slobber clean up) and medical needs. He is worth every ounce of effort and it becomes so easy – he is just perfect.
