Cute and petite Poppy, the 5 year old Boston Terrier weighing just 19 pounds, is ready to get a fresh start on life and has decided to tell us all about her future dreams and endeavors.
First and foremost, Poppy is most interested in a forever home. Sadly, her owner passed away, which is how this cutie ended up in rescue. With her whole world changing, Poppy is a bit reserved and described as a 'slow warm' with people, so she will need a gentle and patient hand going forward. Once she warms up, her foster mom describes her as "a true gem." Poppy has been in foster care for 7 weeks and is just now coming around to enjoy being petted and picked up by humans.
This little miss LOVES her tennis balls, toys and playtime. Her favorite activities include fetch and tug of war. She will play non stop with balls until you decide the game is over. If you are interested in a game of tug of war, Poppy will quickly become your best buddy. She is a rough player and not recommended to live with children under 5 years old. She has been known to destroy stuffed toys until she met the tough lambie toy which she likes to shake around, but so far has not been able to destroy.
Currently Poppy lives with older dogs who are clearly not interested in her activity level. She has been known to hold a grudge against the female French Bulldog in her foster home. Although she does not start a quarrel, she is also not one to back down from a dog argument. We believe her best fit would be with younger, playful dogs, or as an only dog with a family who can keep her mind and body stimulated with walks, hikes, & lots of play time. Slow introductions with other dogs are recommended. She is untested with cats.
Very soon after entering rescue, Poppy was diagnosed with Epilepsy. She spent a day in the hospital to get her stabilized, but with medication, Poppy has since been seizure free. She requires Phenobarbital 12 hours apart to keep her stable. Her last blood panel showed normal levels. As you can tell, Poppy has been through a lot in recent months. She has a lot of life ahead of her and simply wants a dedicated person in her life to lead her onto happier trails ahead.
Poppy does not require a fenced yard, and has not needed to be crated at all in foster care, although we are told she was crate trained previously. She is not 100% potty trained, but working hard on her homework in this area and making great strides. Poppy is not particular about living in the city or suburbs and is even willing to accompany you to work and become the office mascot if you would allow her to audition for the role.
