Meet Maxeroni - a bulldog with a high level of self-importance and a large vocabulary. With his brindle coat, winning smile and whimsical pop-up ears, he knows he's a head turner, but this boy is also a real charmer. Max is getting ready to celebrate his 9th birthday in December, (although he doesn't look a day over 7) and he's officially available for adoption!
Although beloved by his former family, Max was surrendered when his owners returned to full time work in addition to having a newborn and realized they did not have the time to properly devote to him. He is used to having people around and thrives best in a household where at least one person is home most of the time.
This social butterfly has a special ability to work just about any size crowd and loves to be included in activities and hang out with his people. If you are having some friends over to watch a football game, Max has been known to wear his favorite jersey and politely help himself to snacks, just like the human crowd. You won't find this boy tucked in a corner. He's also happy to sit on the couch with you for some 1-1 attention once the guests leave the party. This agile senior can jump up on the sofa by himself and he also enjoys car rides in his free time. It's best to take a short ride, then return home, as home is where Max's heart is. If you work from home, or in an office, he's likely to quietly hang out by your side as you compete your daily tasks.
Max is crate trained, but has free roam of his foster home when his mama is away. We just wouldn't suggest leaving any food on the coffee table when you are away, because it most certainly would end up in Max's belly. Max also wants you to know that since he is so food driven, you need to be mindful when giving a treat. Sometimes his excitement gets the best of him. For this reason, he would do best in a home without children under 13 years old. Max is also an excellent communicator. He has a specific bark for when he's hungry and a different one for when he's thirsty.
During nap time, Max dreams of becoming a football player or an official taste tester. He prefers to be around people who smile at snorts and snores, enjoy his slightly stubborn quirks, and understand his food driven personality. Max wants you to know that a fenced yard is very high on his priority list. If you prefer a stroll and he isn't in the mood, it's like walking a cinder block. For this reason, a fenced yard is required and might save you some undue stress. He is completely house trained and his vocabulary includes: "sit", "stay", "paw" and "out" commands.
Maxeroni's foster mom describes him as 54 pounds of cuddly, curious and calm all in one package. He has never lived with children or other pets, and is quite content to be the only child and receive all of the attention. We also think he would do fine with children over 13 and his ability to live with other pets is unknown. The former owners said he lived with a Yorkie years ago but has not had any exposure to any pets since, nor in his foster home.
Mr. handsome is neutered and up to date on vaccines. He requires daily eye drops 3 times per day for chronic dry eye and is not a fan of getting his medicine. He's hoping his adopter has some tricks up their sleeve to aid and assist in this department; as Max will tell you, the struggle is real. For his age, he is very agile and entertaining. Max does have allergies which require pills twice daily to keep his brindle coat looking and feeling it's best.
