More About Me

Mazie the floppy eared Boston Terrier is proof positive that fairy tales really can come true. This once ragamuffin was found as a stray on the streets of NYC last summer. She was in rough shape when she entered rescue in August 2021 with severe ear infections and lumps on her back and in her mammary glands. Suspected to be living outside, possibly as a breeder, little Mazie had no idea what to do with toys or how to sleep in a bed. She also had no idea how much fun life would soon become.

Fast forward to present day. This 16-pound nugget has bounced back in a big way. She now has a clean bill of health. It took a while to get her ears under control and thinking a little outside the box by seeing a dermatologist after traditional antibiotics were not solving the problem. Also, the lumps on Mazie’s back and mammary glands were found to be malignant, however, upon removal of the lumps and mammary glands, her surgeon is confident that the surgery was successful and that all of the cancer is gone. She's feeling tip top for the first time in ages. She should remain on her maintenance ear medications and receive regular medical check-ups.

Described as affectionate, energetic and intelligent by her foster mom, Mazie enjoys a daily walk, but not with the resident pugs who she considers sloths. She has bonded fully with her dog bed and with plush toys which she will collect and place in her bed for safekeeping, away from the sloths. Most of all, Mazie enjoys exploring in a fenced yard, and has found the outdoors is so much more enjoyable when you have a home and bed waiting inside.  A fenced yard is required.

Full of typical Boston Terrier energy, you would never guess Mazie to be 8 years old. In fact, she is so energetic and mouthy with play time that she is not recommended to live with children under 5. She eagerly greets young children on her daily walks but needs reminded to be polite.  She also has not yet grasped that jumping on other dogs at the dog park (especially large breed dogs) is sometimes not the best way to introduce yourself. However, when riding in a taxi or on the subway, perfect manners prevail, making Mazie an ideal sidekick for outings while the sloths and cats remain at home.

This resilient lass can adapt to just about any environment as long as she receives an abundance of attention. She has done well in her foster home, in the city and has bonded most with the 17-year-old human of the household. She's non-reactive to noisy surroundings and eager to please her people. She is appropriate with the cats and pugs in her foster home and loves time outdoors, as well as sleeping in the person bed at night, or under a blanket in her dog bed. She becomes trancelike when her belly is rubbed!  Described as an affectionate love-bug, Mazie would be over the moon to find an active human person or family who can keep this athletic girl mentally and physically stimulated. She can benefit from some additional manners training on how to appropriately greet others. She can also benefit from continued dermatology appointments to keep her ears healthy.

Are you Mazie’s knight in shining armor? Her happily-ever-after awaits a completed adoption application.
