More About Me

Pick one:

Couch potato
Loafer
Outgoing
Friendly
Laid back

No matter which one you picked, Cercie can oblige, and if you picked all 6, you hit the jackpot with Cercie. Add to this that if you want a dog who will be truly devoted to and follow your kids everywhere, she is the one.

Cercie came into rescue because her owner had several heart attacks and was possibly in the need of heart surgery, which would have meant lots of time in doggy daycare and not enough love and snuggling.

Ironically, Cercie has some heart troubles of her own, and has a grade 4 heart murmur for which she will need ongoing cardiologist care. In addition, strenuous activity and walks in warm weather are definitely out for this cute baby. In fact, almost as if she knows of her own condition, she is perfectly content to hang out in the house and yard and to be with her peeps. She is on heart medication that needs to be given exactly every 12 hours, with no negotiation. Missing any dosages is can have serious consequences.

Kids – bring them on. She adores the 3 kids in her foster home who are 8, 6, and 3. Kids will be kids which means they always have some tempting food floating in front of Cercie, about which she shows zero aggression. She can do well with very mellow or mild mannered dogs. She does not like pushy or over excited dogs and will not tolerate them. She will need slow introductions. She is fine with cats.

If you don’t want to be bored with this little gem, you can always fine tune in the housebreaking department. She has had some accidents in her foster home, but probably because she wasn’t let out in time to make it.

Cercie is crate-trained, but it is not her favorite place to be. When she first arrived in her foster home, she showed severe anxiety when left alone in it and even took to howling and drooling. She is better now but may regress when in another new situation. Her adoptive family may want to try leaving her to roam free in a small area when she must be left alone.

Connoisseur that she is, Cercie’s favorite things to play with are her hamburger and ketchup toys, but her most favorite thing is to get cuddles and snuggles from her humans. No worries about this girl being shy and retiring. She loves nothing more than to be in the center of all the action.

Her ideal home includes kids, cats, birds, and other dogs. Her owners need to have dog experience, and ideally with short-nosed dogs. She would thrive in a big family that doesn’t travel much and that runs on predictable routines. Routine is particularly important for her because of her strict medication schedule.

Name your place: city, suburb or rural and she would do fine. A single-family house with a fenced yard where she can sun-bathe is a must have. Apartments would not be ideal because of her proclivity to screech when left alone in her crate.

Here’s what her foster mom has to say about this nugget:

“She is super sweet and lovable. Cercie doesn’t require much besides a warm body to lay next to.”

What is foster to adopt?
Foster to adopt is a program we use when we want to place a dog in a home that will potentially adopt them. We always Foster initially because it’s normally a dog that SNORT takes in directly from a surrendering party. So, we know nothing about the dog’s medical needs or personality at that point. SNORT has legal ownership of the dog and is financially responsible of all medical needs while in foster care. Once all medical needs are met and the Foster to adopt family has decided the dog is the best fit for them, the adoption process will be finalized with a contract and final adoption fee. If for any reason the Foster to adopt family has decided that the dog, for whatever reason, does not fit in their home, they must continue to Foster until a suitable home is found for the dog.
