Weekend and evening hours required. Prerequisites: compassion, patience and diligence. High threshold for snoring necessary. Preference to those who possess a good sense of humor. Medical knowledge and brachycephalic breed experience preferred. Here's Lilah's unique story in her own words:
 _________________________________________________________________________________________
I'm just 1 year old, cute as a bug's ear, and ready to find a permanent family. I've placed a want-ad in order to help find my perfect life partner. I came to S.N.O.R.T. rescue due to needing some operations and right now I live with my foster mum near NYC. I'm described as sweet, silly and docile. I hear adults refer to me as "special" and I'm pretty sure that means I'm irresistible beyond words.

The reason I need a permanent/fulltime caregiver is because I have some difficulty with meals. My swallow and breathing parts don't work right so I need to be closely monitored at mealtime.  I must use a fluff trough feeder to keep my swallow parts in a straight line when I eat. Bending causes the spit-ups, or even scarier, food sometimes becomes lodged. You might be wondering what I've done to help with this condition. Well, I have had surgery on my soft palate because the doctor said I had way too much extra skin in there. I also have collapsing larynx which is not able to be surgically corrected. If it fully collapses, I will require a tracheotomy. Additionally, I've had a hiatal hernia repaired. I then opted for some cosmetic work - a nose job, so my nostrils are wide & pretty --- boys turn heads when I pass by. As a bonus, the fancy nostrils help me breathe better too! I'm certain some girl Frenchie's are a bit jealous of my brindle fur and my new nose. I also take oral medication, that helps a great deal with the spit-ups, but I still need your eyes on me when I eat.

I'm not a drama queen, just a regular girl with more than her share of medical issues and maybe 10% queen bee. I love to bask in the sun and take golf cart rides. I can climb stairs but need carried back down because I'm top heavy. I really want a dog sibling who is docile and doesn't mind if I sit on their head occasionally. I really like other dogs and being in a pack, but they must be calm so that I don't get overly excited and out of breath. A relaxed dog would be ideal for me and provide comfort.  Ideally, I'm in search of a calm household with people around most of the time, and adults only, or children over 5 years old who know how to respect me, and maybe even help with some of my care, like cleaning my fluff trough. Most of all, I want to feel safe and stable in my home. I'm just 16 pounds and special.

I've spent 6 months in rescue, getting on the mend from my surgeries, and dealing with the medical issues I've been dealt in life. It's been a bumpy road. My foster mum will tell you that she loved caring for me and wants to see me have the best life possible, even knowing it might not be the same as the other young dogs. This is why I really do need a permanent caregiver who can keep me safe and manage my medical needs. You will be happy to know that I am potty trained and crate trained and know how to sit and give my "paw" when asked. I'm currently studying "off" but that is a a challenging homework which I'm still attempting to master.

I really hope my permanent caregiver is out there reading my story and equal to the challenge of a special needs pup because I am ready to live my best life with a family of my own. If you are my forever person/caregiver, please contact the people at S.N.O.R.T. and tell them you want to adopt Lilah. Send in an application today!
