You may call me Roxanne, Roxie, even RatsAnne, just don't call me late for dinner! Because I love food so much, people think I might be 2/3 pug and 1/3 Hobbit! Like hobbits, I enjoy dressing in bright colors, second breakfasts, and I have hair on the top of my feet. I'm a short-stack weighing just 10 pounds and I'm jolly as an elf. I came to S.N.O.R.T. by way of a good Samaritan after being rescued from an outdoor living situation. Currently I live with my foster family and I'm available for adoption!
Wanting nothing more than love and attention, I bond immensely with humans. My temporary mom describes me as the easiest foster dog ever. As a typical velcro pug I will follow you wherever you go and sometimes appear to be smiling at you. My favorite activities include laying on my back, in your arms to get belly rubs, lots of meals & biscuits, dumping the toy box, taking short leash walks, and getting a lot of praise from my humans. Not to brag, but I'm a perfect little lady on the leash, and won't tug or pull. Just allow me a casual pace and some important sniffing as I saunter along. I'm proud to say that I haven't met a toy or treat that I didn't like. I am so food driven that I am fed 3 smaller meals per day and am encouraged to slow my roll at mealtime by using a slow feeder method. I don't yet understand that biting and gulping isn't the best way to savor a proper meal. When it comes to biscuit taking, if you value your fingers may I suggest dropping the treat on the floor since I become a piranha pug when I smell food. I'm working on myself, but I'm a work in progress in this area, and for this reason I am not recommended to live with children under 13. Don't misunderstand...I'm a total love pug in all other ways, but when it comes to food, I truly can't contain my enthusiasm to put the yummies in my belly as quickly as possible. I've maintained impeccable oral hygiene, so please understand that my choppers are in great condition.
Estimated to be 8-9 years old, I am spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated and had a recent dental cleaning. Described as energetic for my stated age, I would thrive best in with a family who can give me an ample amount of attention and is willing to keep the toy box filled with prizes, especially gummy bones and stuffed toys that crinkle. I'm excellent at busying myself with toys and playing solo. I can sometimes be found suckling the feet of my giant stuffy pig or my crinkly legged lobster stuffy. Foster mom will tell you that I am obedient at learning the ropes of house-training and will need to be kept on a regular schedule of approximately every 4 hours, with a person beside me giving praise when I accomplish the outside business. At night I sleep soundly all night long on my crate mattress accident free. In fact, I so enjoy having my own area & will sometimes go in the crate for a snorty nap during the day. I rarely bark with the exception of mealtime, or someone coming in or out of the front door. I currently live in a suburban development.
I get along fine with the two resident pugs in my foster home but was known to get into a squabble or two with the female pug in my prior home. I need human direction on manners and would ideally be best suited in a home with a laid back, non-reactive dog...in other words, one that doesn't mind if I step on them instead of around them on the sofa. Mischievously, I am a known toy thief and will sneak a bone from an unsuspecting sibling if the opportunity arises. (Without stating, I need to take all meals separate from other dogs.)
I'm not on any prescribed medication and passed a wellness test with flying colors. I take a joint supplement daily and I have very limited vision with a shrunken non visual left eye, probably the result of a past injury. If I were 100% hobbit, this gal would definitely be wearing bifocal spectacles. I also take an over-the-counter maintenance supplement to keep my bum feeling comfy. I enjoy running up and down the carpeted stairs in my foster home, and although I prefer carpet, I can navigate hard flat surfaces. Due to my age, visual impairment and small stature, I am not recommended to be unsupervised on stairs that are tall, steep or uncarpeted.
