Please meet the dame of all dames – Ms Birdie Maude The Broad. This sweet older lady came into snort just before Christmas from a shelter in Manhattan. This poor girl didn’t know what she did to end up in such a place. She was waiting for her owner to come back. When she first arrived into rescue – it was clear she had a broken heart. She would whine and all the cuddles in the world couldn’t console her. She was always worried when you left the room, that you weren’t coming back. Her foster family worked extra hard to make sure she knew that she was not being left behind. Her anxiety has lessened rather quickly and has been replaced with a mischievous potato on sticks. She is also deaf, although we think she may have a little hearing left as she can hear a bag opening….hmmmm.
Maude has stiff limbs which have been getting massages a few times a day as well as some good supplements and simple medication. She walks a bit like a zombie but don’t let that fool you. She will bulldoze past you or anything (baby gate, sliding barn doors, boxes or you – get the picture) when she wants to see what is going on OR it’s meal time. She does bend her legs a little more each day - but with Arthritis, she won’t become a parkour candidate. She can do a couple of stairs but her foster family carries her up and down to go to bed at night (She only weighs 20lbs and its all limbs). She is a big napper and would love to sit next to you, or happily claim a chair for her own. Her foster family helps her up and down – but she has been known to just show up in the chair when no one is watching. She has also been caught jumping up to get your snack off coffee table. Don’t underestimate this broad, she will prove you wrong at every turn.
She would love a home with a fenced in yard where she can go out frequently. She has had a few accidents but always tries to tell you she needs to go out. You can also hear her. She sneaks up like an elephant on skates. She wouldn’t do well on long walks.
She also wouldn’t mind a furry friend or two in her new home. She gets along fine with the resident dogs and cats and because she is a bit clumsy, has been known to sit on them and act like she isn’t aware. She has long limbs and when you carry her they just stick straight out. She has moved artwork while being carried upstairs and looks at you like what?
Speaking of looks, She also has this funny stare, which looks like someone looking over one's reading glasses, and judging you. Think Librarian or Nun. She has been known to do this to her foster mom after she has dressed and clearly not approved of outfit.
Oh but Maude, herself, loves to wear sweaters and PJs and wouldn’t mind a large wardrobe. She deserves it.
She just wants to be with her people all the time. If you like reading a good book with a cup of coffee in the morning – she would enjoy being your companion. If you enjoy a glass of wine – (she would like to try a wine spritzer, thank you) and would love to watch a good documentary with you in the evening. She deserves a home that will make her a priority. She would love a single person or a couple. retired or works from home and a friendly relaxed furry sibling or two. Her foster mom says it best. “Maude the Broad is ready to snooze her way into your heart. She is really been a joy to have around and is a lovely lady.”
