More About Me

Howie has had a bit of a rough road but he’s more than ready to settle into his new forever home!
Howie came to SNORT after being found as a stray and landing in a shelter in Brooklyn, N.Y. He had kennel cough and pneumonia when SNORT first took him in, but he has made a full recovery from both.
While technically a pug mix, Howie’s personality is all pug! He is a typical 10 year old, 23 lbs Velcro pug who loves to be around people. He gets so excited to see his people and just wants to be wherever they are.

Among his favorite things (besides people!) are food and toys. Because he gets so excited about mealtime, Howie should be fed separately if there are other dogs in the home. Speaking of other dogs, Howie is a-okay with sharing space with fellow doggies. He isn’t really concerned with them – he really only cares where his people are!
He gets a bit excited and jumpy so toddlers may not be ideal, but he’d love a home with slightly older children. Howie hasn’t been around cats but he’d probably do fine.
Howie is housetrained but is not a fan of the crate – he doesn’t want anything coming between him and his people! He would be fine to take to work if a mid-day check-in isn’t possible. Even better – he would think he’d found heaven if someone was able to stay home with him all day!
While Howie is completely recovered from the kennel cough and pneumonia, he is prone to bouts of “reverse sneezing” and coughing, especially when excited. His vet believes he may have an elongated soft palate but it doesn’t interfere with his breathing or quality of life and the fits decrease as he settles in to a new environment.

He has no vision out of his right eye – possibly due to an older, untreated injury – but it does not impact him.

Howie would do best in a house; he has a bit of (vocal) separation anxiety and therefore apartment-living with neighbors in close proximity would not be ideal. A fenced-in yard is not required and while he’s a senior guy, a few stairs are okay by him!

Howie has so much love to give and he simply cannot wait to land the perfect forever home! He is currently being fostered near Providence, R.I.
