Sweet, snuggler, friendly…there isn’t a bad adjective in the bunch to describe Lilliana (aka Lilly) who is going to make her future forever family very, very happy!
Lilly is your typical bulldog – in the best ways possible! She loves all people of all ages and sizes; she is currently living with children ranging in age from 6- 9 years-old and gets along famously with all of them. She is good with other dogs and even likes cats!
Like many bulldogs, she is a simultaneously outgoing and laid back. She wants nothing more than to be next to her humans – at all times! One of her favorite pastimes is chewing bones, so stock up now! And car rides are another favorite activity; she wants to tag along wherever her family is going!
Lilly does have some permanent visual impairment (she is not blind) due to untreated dry eye and entropion in both eyes. This means she must be approached cautiously and so as not to startle her. Lilly does not have an aggressive bone in her body, but she is easily startled. This can (understandably) cause her to be a bit timid in new situations so slow introductions are necessary, but once she’s comfortable, her personality shines through!
In order to keep her eyes comfortable and from having her sight deteriorate, she must remain on two types of eye drops (cyclosporine, neopolydex) and one eye lubrication ointment.
Lilly also previously suffered an ACL injury and it can flare up on occasion. Fortunately, she responds well to anti-inflammatories and x-pen rest (she does not like the crate!). Because of both her limited vision and occasional knee issues, a home without many stairs is preferred. It is also essential that she maintain a healthy weight to ease the strain on her joints and remain on her current joint supplement regime.
She isn’t much for regular exercise partially due to her particularly narrow airway, so she must avoid strenuous exercise or spending extended time outdoors in extreme heat – and AC is a must! Plus, due to her limited vision she isn’t a huge fan of the leash; she prefers a home with a yard to explore at her own pace!
An urban area may not be the best for her as there are too many sights and sudden movements that could startle her and cause stress; instead, she’d prefer a rural or suburban setting with her own yard. She is housetrained and can be left alone during the day – but who would want to leave this face alone all day? Lilly is fine with a home, townhouse, single owner, family with kids -- just long as she has her supply of bones and pets, she’s just fine almost anywhere!
