Peanut

Peanut
If I appear to be resting, it’s because I’m thinking of my next caper. At just 2 years old I have a few tricks up my sleeve, but I promise to put a smile on your face and be your faithful sidekick. I’m very curious and love everyone.  I will need a family or person with a lot of patience, a willingness to train and someone who appreciates my playful 24-pound busy self. My name is Peanut and I currently live near Bridgewater, N.J. and I’m available for adoption!
My ideal day begins with an early start. Every day is a new adventure in my world. A playful dog friend and a fenced yard are also very high on my wish list for the perfect day. My favorite activity is wrestling, because I’m fairly muscular and I like to keep toned. Please ask your dog if they like to wrestle and if they do, I urge you to apply to adopt me and we will do our best to avoid knocking over small tables in our way. I’d prefer another Frenchie, Boston or Pug but it your dog has a snout, no judgement here as long as they can keep up with me.
Since I’m young, I am told I can be a bit on the unmannerly side, so small children (under 5) and cats in the home are not really a good fit for me. They sometimes take exception to puppy play biting and chasing. When I’m done running in the yard and wrestling with my bestie, I enjoy a good nap to recharge my battery. I recharge 4 times a day or so.
At some point in our relationship, I expect you will want to discuss the “M word” (manners) with me. I’m willing to try to learn some basic commands, if treats are involved. As for leash walking, this is where your patience may play a big part. It’s really hard for me to stifle my inner puppy when I’m outdoors and see other people and dogs along my path. Foster mom doesn’t think that lunging and jumping to greet them – fast like a rocket – is the best approach, but I disagree.
Medically, I have been dealt a bit of an unfair hand in life. I have a seizure disorder and need to take medication on a regular schedule. This was actually the reason I came to live at S.N.O.R.T. My former owner had difficulty maintaining the correct intervals of my medication regime. One of my meds is needed every 8 hours and the other every 12 hours, so I really need someone to be a dog parent and a nurse. The good news is that with my medications, I only have had one seizure or two a month while in foster care. However, I will need to be closely monitored for this condition throughout my life. And like a lot of Frenchie’s, I’m prone to ear infections. Regular ear maintenance, plus wrinkle and paw wipes keep me feeling my best.
To some people, I might sound like a lot of work, but I am just navigating the puppy/adolescent stage, and I’m told I will blossom into a wonderful dog with the right training and devotion. If I sound just right for your household, apply for me, Peanut, the Frenchie.
