Please meet pretty Penny. She is a sweet, gentle, albeit a bit too curvy, girl who will make an excellent companion. Penny ended up in rescue through no fault of her own. She suffers from allergies and needs someone who can keep up with her daily routine.
Penny would enjoy an adult human companion or two to be her people. She is calm and relaxed and would appreciate a similar home environment.
Penny loves to lounge about and watch good tv (ok really any tv would do). She is a very respectable pug that enjoys being in your company - but not a lap dog - she would prefer to sit next to you.
Penny tolerates the foster home dogs and cats in the house. She has no issues with any of them but also, she really doesn't care about them.
When one of the dogs gets too close to her or jumps up next to her, she gets up and moves. She is okay about getting close to them as long as it's her decision to do so. None of this bruhaha for this lovely lady. Every once in a while, Penny has a spell of excitement and decides to play with one of her toys however, if one of the other dogs tries to join in, she drops the toy and stops playing. She is a solo performing artist.
As long as any other dog in her potential forever home gives her personal space, she would be fine with another low-key pup. Having said that, she wouldn’t mind being your only fur baby as well. Speaking of children, Penny is hard of hearing and therefore would not do well in a home with children who can startle her.
Penny doesn't seem to know any commands but is a very well-mannered girl.
Penny has allergies and must be kept on medication daily for them. She will eat her medication in her breakfast and dinner disguised in a chunk of wet food but will refuse it any other way. She also needs to be wiped after she goes out to prevent UTI's. Her face folds need to be wiped and medicated daily as well as her ears cleaned and medicated often. She would do best in a smoke free home for the issues she has had with allergies. Penny is housebroken but needs a regular schedule to do her business.
Some people don’t do windows…..Penny does NOT do stairs. They terrify her. She will go up one or two to get into the house however that’s where it stops.  Her foster family have been working with her to do inside stairs - she shows zero progress. So, unless you are prepared to pick up the chunk, she needs to go to a home with no stairs.
She currently weighs in at 25 lbs., which is down a pound since she has come into foster but still needs to lose 5 or 6 more according to the vet.
Penny has enjoyed investigating the fenced in yard and does know how to use a dog door already. If you are outside, she wants to be out there. If you are inside, she wants to be inside. Penny walks well on a leash but walking on a very crowded street could be overwhelming for her, with her hearing issues, so she would prefer a fenced in yard.
Although Penny would love to have you home all the time, she seems to do fine being left alone for a couple of hours. She doesn't appear to have any separation anxiety and barks very little if at all.
Penny is a sensitive girl, that will need patience and time to warm up and decompress to trust her new owners and surroundings. Penny would make a single person or couple the light of her life.
