URGENT HELP is needed for little Romeo! Romeo is a seven-month old French bulldog puppy who is currently hospitalized with aspiration pneumonia – serious in any dog but especially a short-nosed puppy.
Romeo was admitted to an emergency vet in Ontario with vomiting, lack of appetite and very labored breathing; he was quickly diagnosed with aspirated pneumonia and immediately put on antibiotics and oxygen. X-rays were done, and a radiologist found several abnormalities: narrowing of the trachea, bloated diaphragm, dilatation of the esophagus, and possibly an issue with his digestive tract and a potential congenital hiatal hernia. That’s a lot going on in one tiny body!
Romeo currently will not eat, and his stomach keeps filling up with gas. When he lays on his side he stops breathing and is now on an oxygen tank and a feeding tube. There are several tests that need to be done once he recovers from pneumonia, including a CT scan, ultrasound and barium study.
SNORT can’t save Romeo without additional help! Please consider a donation of any amount. All donations are tax deductible and go directly to Romeo’s vet bills. Please visit the you caring page or click the above green sponsor tab for little Romeo.

Romeo got in to see an internal specialist! The specialist was able to rule out PRAA – yay! – with a full-body 3D scan. And, his esophagus now looks completely normal with all inflammation gone! The specialist is also quite confident that Romeo doesn’t have Mega E, either – but the question remains, why is he still regurgitating his food?
The specialist believes he may have Myasthenia Gravis – Myasthenia Gravis is caused by a breakdown of the transmission of impulses from the nerves to the muscles. This keeps the muscles – including those that aid in digestion – from contracting, causing affected dogs to become weak. A medication has been added to his daily routine to help him digest his food better.
So while Romeo is still waiting on some definitive answers, we’re happy to report he’s still a very happy little guy. He loves playing and has recently discovered the joy in de-stuffing his toys!
