Ruby came into rescue needing some help with allergies and itchy skin. She also learned about being a fun loving dog. Ruby follows her humans everywhere and wants to be with them 90 percent of the time. In fact, when her foster folks go out (for no more than 4 hours at a time), Ruby is waiting for them at the door.
Ruby does not do at all well in a crate and will actually bang her head against it until it bleeds. But she doesn’t chew or get into trouble when she’s left to wander about. In addition, because of this, there’s work left to be done for her potty training. As long as she gets out every 3, or a maximum of 4, hours, she does fine, but any more than that and she’ll have accidents.
This sweet, social and active little girl is loaded with personality. She loves to loaf with her peeps on the couch, but is also very busy. She adores toys that squeak, car rides, trips to the beach, food, being with her humans, changes in scenery, laying out in the sun, being snuggled, hanging out with her dog friends, and generally just watching the world go by. She can sometimes be a nervous Nellie but is also friendly and laid back.
Ruby loves wandering around on grass, which is where she prefers to do her business. In fact, the leash is not her thing and represents an opportunity for a trainer to get her over her reluctance. Besides going to areas where she can be off-leash, she does fine in a stroller.
Other than her allergies, she is in fine health. She does need Zyrtec, as well as a diet free of salmon and meals with shredded chicken on top.
A home without toddlers would be the best for Ruby as well as one where someone is home (beyond Covid) most of the time. A single person, older couple, and an all-adult home with people who have experience with short-nosed dogs is where Ruby needs to be. Really, any type of home environment would work for her, as long as she can get out into that grass.
Our dream for Ruby is that she finds herself in a home where she will get love lavished on her with people who want to put this little girl in the center of their lives. If you think you can be her best friend, please submit an application to S.N.O.R.T. today!
