If you’re looking to add a whole lot of fun to your life, look no further than Tiago! Tiago is all bulldog and he is going to make one lucky family incredibly happy.
There isn’t a single person Tiago doesn’t love – and expect to love him back! He gets along well with everyone but his enthusiasm – especially for anyone new he meets – may prove to be too much for younger children, so we recommend a home with children older than toddler age. He’s not aggressive by any stretch but he just can’t contain his excitement when meeting people!
Tiago has a lengthy list of things he loves – walks, car rides, people, food toys, sleeping. He’s content to sleep in the office with his foster mom but equally loves getting out for a walk or car ride. He does need a bit of work on proper leash etiquette; he just has a hard time containing his excitement to be out and about!
Tiago is completely house trained and even knows a few basic commands. He would do well in almost any environment – apartment, house, city, suburb, etc. A fenced-in yard is not required.
While Tiago generally gets along well with other dogs, he does best with females. He occasionally has bouts of dominance toward fellow male dogs and while he is able to be calmed down with a quick timeout in his crate, it is ideal if his forever home had female dogs or a male dog who is neither too submissive or too dominant.
Tiago can become a tad possessive over “his” belongings. He is easily redirected with a treat, though – like most bulldogs, he is incredibly food-motivated! He does need an owner who is patient and can help calm him in those rare moments of possessiveness.
Like many bulldogs, Tiago has severe allergies which require diligent care. He is on a strict diet and has medicated baths every 3-4 days in addition to daily mediation (Temeril P). During flareups, he is also often put on a dose of antibiotics and/or antifungals.
He also came to SNORT with scarring on both corneas and while they do not seem to affect his vision, they will need continual monitoring.
Tiago will definitely need at minimum a mid-day check-in as the meds he is on cause increased water consumption. He does a great job at not having accidents, but he definitely cannot go all day without a break. He’d be great with a petsitter and would also make a phenomenal coworker in a quiet office environment.
Tiago is truly a gem who is going to make a wonderful addition to the right family. He is currently being fostered in Maryland outside of Washington, D.C.
